Puthandu Vazthukal - Happy New Year!!!
Hi all,
As some of you know my parents are from Sri Lanka, although I was born in England, UK. We celebrated our New Year of 2007 on Saturday 14th April. The Tamil calendar is as follows:
Chitthirai: April 14th to May 14th
Vaikasi: May 15th to June 14th
Aani: June 15th to July 16th
Aadi: July 17th to August 16th
Aavani: August 17th to September 16th
Purattasi: September17th to October 17th
Aipasi: October 18th to November 15th
Karthigai: November 16th to December 15th
Marghazi: December 16th to January 13th
Thai: January 14th to February 12th
Masi: February 13th to March 13th
Panguni: March 14th to April 13th
The words 'Puthandu Vazthukal' literally mean Happy New Year and signifies the day when Lord Brahma (The Creator of the world, according to Hindu Mythology) created the world.
So....
Wishing all the clan a wonderful, happy and sucessful New Year! I hope this year brings much joy and peace in your lives and to your loved ones. Thank you for welcoming me into the family.
