its passible to make your map with only one light environnment (ex: dm_357_emc2). But if there is a building in the map, like a house. the you have to put a light in each room of the house. light never shine through walls. Other thing, you have too change the brightness of your light.
for the floor:
1) select the floor.
2) use the texture tool
3) then choose displacement
4) click on button "create" and accept ("ok")
5) after that you will see a grid on the ground. choose "paint geometry" and then placeyour pointer on the point you want to increase or decrease. on the grid. (to increase click on left button of the mouse and to decrease clik on the right button).
6)when its finish press apply.

One more thing about light... If you put a light entity in a room, you will see that you nearly doesn't see anything in that room. Why because the defauld are a brightness of 200 and a light scale diminution which is quadratic. Thus, you have to put a higher brightness or you have to change the way the light decrease. Now, i usually use light in constant mode, thus in a empty killbox, you just put one light, in a constant way, with a value of 80-90 for brightness, by example.
You can also put no light at all, then a full bright map will be created. No shadows, every thing totally clear...
You just have to try some differents lights and use the one which give you the best effect

La misere des amis n'est pas plus amusante qu'un jardin dont la flore est mourante.

Can i do it on a spike? I've try, and my spike has disappeared from 3D View, but always on others. When i click "destroy" (to destroy my grid ), it appears ...for the floor:
1) select the floor.
2) use the texture tool
3) then choose displacement
4) click on button "create" and accept ("ok")
