Well, if you are so fussed.
You bought the game, so you paid the money for it. So now you can go to a pirate website and get a full american version that doesnt need steam... You are not breaching copyright law (too much) and your spirit is clean, since you paid for it.. You are only breaching Germany's age/censorship restrictions, but if you solemnly promise not to show ur game to any minors or other people, its your own god damned fault if you go and shoot someone on the street after playing the american version...

i'm not fussed, i know the problem with a german steam account and the us or uk cod mw2 version. i test it only. I borrowed the game from a friend. has also removed the game. oh and i think you don't know the german law. the isp logged all 6 months. Every Website you go, and if i go to a pirate web side and download a ripped game, they know it. i will pay for a game (i know the hard work behind that, over months, years...). if i buy the german version i can't play MP with others users from another country, only with german users on a german server. My buddy and me test this on the last weekend also the language switch problem, only german speech. har har very funnny :zombie:

i have fear about if Kane&Lynch Dog Day came out, or Red Dead Redemption. i would buy it, but not is it cut. ggrrrrrrrrr
Germany, the big wonderland for gamers. Horrraaaaaaaaaaa.

- Well, according to Google, there are 65.5 Million people using the Internet in Germany.
- According to some Yahoo site - there are 20 major Internet Providers in Germany.
- Lets say each company employs 10 000 people (which is unlikely and is much less).
- Lets say of the 200 000 people, half are useless sales managers and half are IT managers.
- So, 100 000 people who have access to the internet logs, add extra 50 000 of government spies (unlikely), and 50 000 copyright agents (veeeeery unlikely)
- So, for 65 500 000 people using internet, there are 200 000 people controlling the internet.
- So, each internet controller, apart from doing his other jobs, has to watch over 330 people
- According to various sources, including a mini-research a google-answers manager guy did in 2006, a person visits 150 pages a day on average (more than that now in 2010 for sure)
- Each internet controller has to read/scan logs of 50 000 pages visited a day
- And, without a clear way to distinguish between pirate sites and non-pirate sites, or if you actually visit them or they pop up, you see where I am going with this...

Or, another view:
- According to "ifpi news" site, during 2004, 6 Million people downloaded illegal music (much more than that im sure)
- Lets say, 10 Million people have used pirate services at least once in Germany, so, approximately one in seven people using the internet are pirates.
- According to a report in 2004, there are 200 000 police officers in Germany in total.
- Given that they also fight crimes, they would take quite a while to arrest or talk to 10 000 000 pirates... 50 pirates per policeman

Or, even other views:
- Torrent downloads are impossible to track, unless you know the content exactly since you are downloading tiny pieces from hundreds of different users
- "Illegal" spreading of media can also involve emails and visits to friends.
- Average of 70 emails per user per day gives an additional 25 000 emails per day for each of the internet controller to read...
- Your IP probably changes a couple of times a year, so this means The Big Brother has to update up to 65.5 million registry values for each user every couple of months
- This includes retracing all of your logs, also taking into account that you have NOT moved houses or changed Internet Provider, or watched porn in McDonalds.
- It usually takes a copyright owner to claim that his product is being pirated until something starts being done, otherwise there is no proof any sharing is illegal.

These are some of the reasons piracy is unstoppable...

well, come to germany. You know the STASI? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasi
50.000 Ex Stasi Workers are now German Police Officers.
And exp. Torrent is totaly logged in Germany! if you use torrent in germany over an german ISP, you can't hide your real IP. Thats LAW in Germany! And wohooooo:
Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) has defended his views expressed in March 2010 compared to violent computer games, drugs and child pornography. In a statement on the parliamentary platform Abgeordnetenwatch.de wrote the politician, he had wanted to shake the comparison. "While drug use is not legal in our society accepts and child pornography in general met with abhorrence, the orgies of violence are on computer screens in their effects, unfortunately trivialized by many, and delusions." Hermann appears to continue a ban on the production and dissemination of "a killer".

i will buy the uncut version, exp. L4D2. But its on the german Index B. if i buy it under the table, hellooo steam... Steam must adhere to the German laws. is the game in the german index, i cant play it.

end of that. that all makes me angry. sorry for big OT.

You werent reading what I was saying:)
Im not saying they "will not" do it, I said its impossible to be done effectively.. All they can do is close torrent trackers and attempt to close torrent sites, for instance... They can not chase EVERY IP using torrents, especially if you just share your own birthday pictures over torrent networks.
All the maths in my previous post just proves how impossible it is that someone will come to YOU personally and say "you are a bad boy". Yeah, it may be illegal in your country, but since you paid for the game you might as well play it.
