the codecs are for decoding/encoding videos files like .avi .mpg .mkv etc... the most famous is divx or xvid.. maybe its a crash of codecs while the start screen video of hl2...dunno do u have that on ur computer ? if not try to install xvid. for a beginning try : -novid in the launch options of hl2...

lol try : -engine ep1 in launch options of hl2dm.


for be serious i heared some codecs pack crashed hl2dm.
